hotel suggestions for Barcelona, Seville, Madrid in March, please

we plan to visit Barcelona in March, and may also go to Seville and Madrid. I would appreciate suggestions for hotels in each city (probably 3 star quality)and how many days you recommend in each city.
Thank you.

I’ll recommend Hostal Acapulco in Madrid (not a hostel), located a couple of blocks up from Puerta del Sol and half a block or so down from Gran Via. Check it out on tripadvisor…number 3 and 4.5 stars there: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187514-d488017-Reviews-Hostal_Acapulco-Madrid.html

We just visited in late November…85€ per night for a quad with balcony overlooking Plaza del Carmen. You’ll need two full days minimum for Madrid, but the city warrants more time if you have it.

Hi Elinda,

My husband and I were in Spain last March, and here is where we stayed in your 3 cities of interest (and note we would stay in each of these places again without hesitation):

Barcelona: upon recommendation of a good friend who lives in BCN, we stayed at the Evenia Rossello hotel, located in the Eixample neighborhood (with a grocery store across the street).

Seville: a Rick Steves recommendation, the YH Giralda.

Madrid: another RS recommendation, the Hotel Preciados.

As for time allocation in each city, I'd initially think 3 days each for Barcelona and Madrid and 2 days for Seville would be good. But keep in mind that there are many day trip options available from all three places, so it kind of depends on what you are interested in seeing in the area (which might also affect how many days to spend in each place).

Have fun!

From our trip last March/April:
Seville: Hotel Amadeus (where Rick stayed during his video of Seville)
Granada: Room Mate Migueletes (recommendation from a friend).

Both of these we'd return to again gladly, however if we get to Granada again, we'd like to stay in the hotel in the Alhambra.

We are thinking of going only to Barcelona -- so I especially would appreciate hotel suggestions in Barcelona. In December, a friend stayed at hotel Catalonia Albinoni, which location was great, but the bathrooms had a "sewer smell". This appears to be Rick Steves' no. 1 recommendation in the 2010 Spain book. So, I am looking for another recommendation.
Thank you.

is six days too many for Barcelona?

Hello, I have been to Barcelona at least 12 times and most recently two years ago. The Catalan part of Spain is very different from the rest -- architecture, mentality, fashion, food, people, beauty, much to do. I have also taken short day trips to Gerona and Fuergueres. the latter has the Dali museum. Gerona was a focal point in the middle ages for a dynamic Jewish community and still looks a lot like Florence. Barcelona hotels that I would recommend are the ones operated by Derby. The tapas bars and boulevards in the Eixample area are wonderful, with excellent shopping as well.

In most, cases, yes, especially if this is the only stop in Spain. As Barbara noted, Catalonia is completely different from the rest of Spain....in fact, many Catalan nationalists will try to convince you it's really not part of Spain at all. If you can, it would be to your advantage to spend some time in Madrid and Sevilla to get a better overall sense of what Spain is all about.
