Hotel Schoenburg overlooking the Rhine

Has anyone stayed at this hotel? We are booked for October 31. Our confirmation describes the entry to the hotel (in a castle) as one hundred and fifty meters up a cobbled path. Any comments on this hotel or the dinner they offer?

Susan-we stayed at the Castle Hotel Schoenburg August 06. It was a very nice hotel with great views of the Rhine. Our room was huge - we had our teenage son with us so it was a two-room suite with a great, very comfortable double bed for us and a single that pulled out of a cupboard for him (he thought it was cool). His bed was in the sitting room - nicely furnished. We ate dinner the first night and I think it was very good - it was the first night of our trip so we were pretty jetlagged. Had breakfast there two days and the breakfast was really good - including sparkling wine if you wanted it. We used this as the base to explore the Rhine area both by car and boat. All in all this was a very nice splurge.

My wife, kids and I also stayed at Hotel Schoenburg in the eummer of 2005 and it was delightful. Great location if you are planning on seeing all the castles on the Rhine. We highly recommend it.

We didn't have dinner there, but breakfasts are included and are wonderful. You won't have any problems finding restaurants in the villages in that area.

We stayed at the Schonburg Castle hotel in Oct 2006 and it was the highlight of our time on the Rhine. We were 3 adults (hubby, Mom and me) and splurged on a suite. It had a great view of the river. We were impressed with all the thoughtful small touches...fresh flowers throughout the castle, a bottle of port in our room (that was replenished each day!!), candles lit at dusk all around the castle, etc. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was very good as was breakfast. The dinner we chose was a set-price menu and included many seasonal products including the best pumpkin soup we have ever had. They aren't kidding about the walking. It is a rather steep cobbled path from the car park up to the castle (and slippery when wet). Wear sturdy shoes! It was fun to poke around the castle and discover all the cute little places tucked away set up for drinks or lunch. Enjoy!
