Hotel Royal in Munich

Hello -
I was wondering if anyone has stayed at this Hotel and can give any information about it. It looks great from the website and claims to be smoke-free which is very appealing to me! Thanks in advance for any knowledge.

I haven't stayed at Royal (I like a non-English speaking place in the suburbs). I almost stayed at Royal 3 years ago, but they were still a little more expensive. Some people have complained that that area, between the Hbf and Karlstor is a little seedy, not dangerous, but not aesthetic. Others have said it didn't matter.

Another place I liked the looks of is Münchner Kindl. The only thing there is that a lot of rooms have the bath down the hall and they don't include breakfast with the price, which I think is an attempt to mislead, since most places in Germany do.

My impressions of Hotel Royal, from a 4-day stay in May '09

*pros: Nice room; comfortable bed; convenient location near the hauptbahnhof; breakfast included in price; helpful attendant available 24 hours; numerous nearby restaurants; en-suite; elevator (if needed)

*cons: Moderate noise throughout the night (my room faced the street); many surrounding businesses catered to adults (is the reason for the noise, though the area felt safe); room rates just a little out of the budget range; if you require A/C my room did not have it.

Not much flavor here, but the location is great.
