Hotel/Restaurant/etc. in Lucerne?

Can anyone recommend a good hotel in lucerne? i want something in a central location that doesn't cost a fortune. I am having a hard time b/c there are not many hotels to choose from. Has anyone heard anything about Hotel Drei Koenige?

Also, any restaurants that you would recommend? we enjoy going out for nice dinners - just not super fancy!

and any recommendations for things not to miss in and around lucerne - sights, chocolate, etc?

i have read up on this in rick steves but want some personal opinions as well. thanks!

Can't help you with the hotels -- any you probably won't find anything very inexpensive. You might want to check out Trip Advisor for the hotels in Lucerne to get comments from others and avg prices also.

Restaurant-wise, we ate at a place called Brasserie Budo two nights in a row because the food was so good and prices were also reasonable.

Hi Nicole, we went to a very small Thai restaurant in Lucerne, called Takrai, the food was very good and by far the cheapest of our trip to Switzerland. You can check for hotels and restaurant reviews on tripadvisor.com

We stayed at the Hotel Des Alpes. Right beside the Kappelbrucke. Ate there every night, the only place we did that in about 11 stops. Most places we ate at a different place every night, but here the menu was so varied and sitting outside beside the river was really nice.

I too stayed at the Hotel des Alpes when I was in Switzerland in May this year. Great little hotel and close to the train station and lots of restaurants. They also had a great breakfast buffet. I would definitely recommend the place.

Hotel Alpina on Frankenstrasse. Rooms are small but it's a very short walk from the train station. It has a tiny elevator. There are some restaurants around the corner. McD's if you are really homesick or broke. Also, there is an escalator around the block near the McD's. Take it downstairs and there are shops (small grocery store and a pharmacy) basically a little mall. There are some decent restaurants across the river a few blocks north of the Chapel Bridge. The ones near the Chapel are very touristy especially the Irish bar.
