Hello!
It is silly to start making hotel reservations now for Provence in September?
I don't want to miss you on the hotels I really want to stay in and am so anxious to start making firm plans!
Thanks! Joanne

I have already booked 2 B&B's for Sept 09 in France. They are small and in well traveled areas so I wanted to be sure to get what I wanted. Never too early if your plans are firm.
To make sure you get the places you want, I would definitely book now. I always do this. I'm not one for holding out in the hopes of last minute deals, then being disappointed, having to settle for second or third choices. When I know exactly what I want to do I go for it. And, you can always cancel the reservation if your plans change.
If they have a good cancellation policy...SURE, I say do it. If they have a bad one, you never know what life events might bring you and waiting til it gets closer shouldn't hurt anything. Sept is not a crazy month, so there should be room unless there is a huge event.
I want to make a resv for a hotel in Munich for Oktoberfest and because of the event...it is full payment, no refund. I am waiting!!
Yes, smart to book any hotels, no matter where in Europe you go to, at least 9 months ahead. It's nice to have your pick of places to stay and get their best rooms.
Book now. Just choose places that have good cancellation policies. Planning is SO much fun. Enjoy!
I always book well in advance for my Europe trips. I like staying in smaller budget properties(NEVER A CHAIN HOTEL) that are centrally located and get great reviews. They exist, but book up very quickly,, so I get my reservation in as fast as I can. I have found most have good cancellation policys,, no fee if you cancel a week or even as long as 30 days out, and only a one night penately for late notice. I have never booked a pay in full for the entire visit sort of place, but, as pointed out , an event like Octoberfest likely has completely different rules.
Read the fine print on cancellation policy, and book as soon as you find what you would be happy with.
PS I have booked, cancelled and rebooked some places, I keep track of prices and specials, and if something better comes up I will switch to another hotel,, but read the fine print as I said.
