My husband and I will have three nights in Munich, and we're looking for recommendations for a value hotel in a good/convenient area.

loel, I always stay at Hotel Uhland and would certainly recommend it. It's located in a quiet residential area, the rooms are very comfortable, the staff are great and they have fantastic breakfasts!

I was in Munich last month and stayed at Hotel Blauer Bock. It is conveniently located and a short walk from Marienplatz and Viktualienmarkt. The rooms were basic and clean. The breakfast was vast. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

I second Ken's recommendation of Hotel Uhland. It is a short bus ride or a long walk from the main train station. Great rooms, great staff and great breakfast!

Hotel Uhland is very nice. BUT, if you want fruit for breakfast, get there early. Our experience for each of the three nights we stayed was that when the limited amount of fresh fruit was gone, it was replaced by canned fruit cocktail.

Last summer my daughter and I stayed at a lovely inexpensive hotel outside of Munich in the nice neighborhood of Nymphenburg. We were able to walk to the beautifully preseved resort of the Hapsburgs where we spent half a day exploring the grounds and buildings and then caught a tram to downtown Munich. The rooms at Hotel Laimer Hof are small but the breakfast and the staff were superb. The bathrooms were modern and sparkling. If you plan on seeing Nymphenburg anyway , this would be my recommendation.

Another vote for Hotel Uhland. We were there 6 days in May and loved it.

I guess the term "value" is subjective. My late father-in-law would have considered the most expensive hotel in Munich as "value" just because it was expensive. I've walked past Uhland on my way to the Oktoberfest grounds and it is indeed in a pleasant neighborhood. But it is a little pricey for my tastes. A couple of blocks to the east people tell me the neighborhood is "seedy", but Hotel Royal is noticeably less expensive. Check out the places I've listed around Marienplatz.
