Staying one night in Arles prior to boarding a river cruise in October 2012 and looking for hotel within walking distance of most attractions.
Last September I spent 3 nights at Hotel Regence. It's just inside the walls and is on the river. It was very easy to walk to everything from there. If you are arriving by train,I believe the station is pretty close. We had a car and found free parking on the street.
We sayed in a Rick steves pic; the Hôtel de la Muette. We absolutely loved it; wonderful owners, BFast, rooms, and right in the middle of everything. See reviews in TA:

Fred, I have stayed several times with various friends at Hotel de l'Ampitheatre which we have thoroughly enjoyed. Do note though that we haven't been in Arles since 2006 although I will book as soon as possible for our trip in 2013.
Thanks for the recommendations. Hotel del'ampithoatve had no rooms left, have not yet heard back from hotel de la muette. Have contacted Hotel Le Callendal and they have rooms, any one know about this hotel?
I don't know the Calendal but Rick's tours have stayed there numerous times over the years.
Fred My husband and I stayed at Le Calendal two summers ago. It was very nice and modern. It had a lovely garden to eat in. The most amazing thing was how close it was to the amphitheater and coliseum, spitting distance. The only thing being so close to the center was the parking was not close. If you are driving, just make sure you understand where to park since the parking is really a private parking facility outside the walls of the old city. Enjoy your trip. Jennifer
Fred, I've stayed at Le Calendal and was very pleased with both the service and the room. If they have vacancies, I'd suggest booking a room as soon as possible. As the previous reply indicated, it's in a great location and easy walking distance to some good restaurants, the Amphitheatre and other sights. Happy travels!
I stayed at Le Calendal and would recommend it for the rooms and location. The breakfast however, is overpriced. It is 12 euros per person and the choice was amongst the worst of all the breakfasts we had in three weeks in France. I'd stay at the Calendal again but go to one of the nearby cafes for breakfast. Another option is if you are there Wednesday or Saturday you can put together a wonderful breakfast at the market for very minimal cost.
Thanks for all the input on Hotels. Just booked at the Le Callendal
