I'm looking for a recommendation for a great place to stay in Vienna for 3-4 nights. Anyone have a favorite place I should investigate?
Tim, we recently stayed at the Best Western Kaiserhof. Marvelous champagne breakfast, wonderful room, about 3 blocks south of a metro station, and about 5 blocks south of the ring and opera house. Price was not cheap, but around $250. Admittedly, that was for a standard double and we were given a free upgrade, so I am not intimately familiar with the standard rooms. However, given the opulence of the entire hotel, I suspect that standard rooms would be large by European standards.
We went through Priceline three times and got the Vienna Marriott for $120 USD. Beautiful quiet room with large beds, nice linens, and there is a pool. It is conveniently located on Ringstrasse with tram just outside the door and two blocks from St Stephan's and central old town Vienna.
I can personally recommend Pension Suzanne, which is located a block from the opera house and is highly rated on www.tripadvisor.com and in all the guidebooks: www.pension-suzanne.at/. Doubles start at €103.
Has anyone stayed at Hotel Austria? We've booked this hotel for 3 days next August, based on RS & other guidebook recommendations. The internet rate for a double is 127 euros, which sounds low for a location near Stephansplatz.
In Oct we stayed at Hotel zur Weiner Staatsoper:
We paid 133E a night, which was spendy...but most places in Vienna were spendy. It was an excellent place. Comfy, clean room with all the amenties. Free Wi-Fi in the room, the best breakfast, extremely nice staff and then there were little things like slippers and a clothesline in the shower and an expansive bathroom kit. They really did a great job with the little details. And it was a place that definitely still had charm.
It was just around the corner from the Opera house and a couple block down from St. Stephans cathedral.
