Hi,
we are looking to spend a night in Lugano (enroute to catch the Bernina express). Can you recommend a hotel, close to the station?
Only thing we are looking for is a decent hotel budget hotel to spend just the night in.

My husband and I will be staying in Lugano for one night at the end of August. The name of the hotel is Walter au Lac. It is right at the end of the pedestrian area and all rooms have a view of the water. The price seemed reasonable compared to the other options we found in Lugano (it's about $200 Canadian). I read on Tripadvisor that the hotel is about a 2 minute walk to the furnicular that will take you to the train station. Here's the website:

Hi, We were in Lugano in 2006. We also did the Bernina Express. It was great. We stayed at Hotel San Carlo. It was nice and not real expensive. There is a fanicular at the train station that takes you down into town. The hotel is only a short walk from there. It is in a pedestrian only area and is only a short walk to the lake. Lugano is a nice town. I hope you have some to look around. We liked walking along the lake and going up Mount San Salvatore. I hope you have a good trip.
