Anybody have experince with either Pesnion Suzanne or Schweizer Pension? We are going to be in Austria next July and are lookig for a hotel in the 120-140 Euro range.. Thanks, Steve
We stayed in the Pension Suzanne in 1999 -- prior to their last facelift. At that time the rooms were pretty worn, and mattresses in bad need of replacing. That said, the location overcomes some dated / worn elements, and the staff was exceptional.
It is just 200-300 feet from the Karlsplatz/Oper metro station -- and pretty much 'right next door' to the Hotel Sacher... making it way too easy to end every day with just 1 more piece of chocolate cake...
Can't comment on the other option, nor anything in Vienna any more recent.
Thx. Looking at the Shermin Hotel too. Gets good reviews on TripAdvisor 100 Euro/night for three.
Not to get too far away from your post, but you might want to consider an apartment rental. My wife and I stayed in an apartment in Vienna last May, and enjoyed it immensely. It was a very central location, spacious, and much cheaper than a hotel. It allowed us to go to the awesome market in Vienna, and we were able to walk everywhere in the city.
We stayed at Pension Suzanne for 3 nights in September. It's conveniently located near public transportation and within walking distance of many sights and restaurants. The post WWII building is forgettable, but our room was large with a comfy bed and modern bathroom. The staff is helpful and friendly. Please note that the hotel, like many hotels and restaurants in Vienna, is not air conditioned. If you're bothered by street noise, request a quieter room along with a fan.
I’ll second Pension Suzanne based on our 2005 stay. The hotel receives 4.5 stars on tripadvisor and is in the top 25 overall in Vienna on that site. Hotel website is: http://www.pension-suzanne.at/
