My husband and I will be in Munich for 5 nights over Christmas this year. Rick's guidebook has great hotel recommendations but does not list short-term apartment/flat rentals. We were wondering if it was worth the hassle and would be cheaper to rent a flat for the week rather than stay in a hotel (Christmas day in a hotel...hmmm...). Suggestions yea or nay to the apartment vs. hotel AND any recommendations for apartments? Thanks! Cathy
Cathy, we ALWAYS rent an apt if we are going to be staying in a city for more than 4 days.
We use VRBO.com and Homelidays.com to find our apts. We just came back from Paris a couple of weeks ago, and found the place that we rented on VRBO.
When we were in Portugal a year and half ago, we found our Lisbon apt on VRBO, and our Tavira apt. on Homelidays.
Getting an apartment may be cheaper. It's hard to find information about them in books, though. The sites mentioned above are good all over Europe. You may get better results from doing a search on "Munich self-catering" or "Munich ferienwohnung" get some local websites to pop up.
