Hello! I am looking to stay the night in June on Mont Saint Michel, but I can't find anything for less than 90 euros. I found a hotel named Logis Saint Sebastien for 70 euros a night, but I can't find any reviews of that hotel on-line (so I am leery to book it). Can anyone here give me advice on staying on Mont Saint Michel? (I've read RS France 2009 and checked all of those recommended hotels for availability and price.)
Kyla, I suppose you are talking about staying inside the walls. June may be a little higher than May but we reserved a double with Hotel St. Michel for 85 euros per night overlooking the bay. They had a room overlooking the walls for 75 euros. I had inquired with Hotel Les Terrasses Poulard however they were full but they said they had rooms available at Hotel St. Michel so I took one. All rooms have private bathrooms. I did not realize it at the time but we rented it on ascension day and a couple of other places were also full for that night.
A number of years ago, we stayed in a BnB just across the causeway (close enough to walk). It had a view of Mont Saint Michel which was really nice. The BnB was in Rick's book (I suspect he still recommends some).
You may pay more to stay on the Mont instead of on the mainland but many travelers feel it's absolutely worth it. I've only stayed at one of the accommodations on the Mont but have gotten the impression that those mentioned by Rick are accurately described by him in his book and that in terms of quality none stands apart from the rest.
Thank you all for the replies! I really did want to stay within the walls on the Mont. I will keep looking :)
Kyla,
The only feedback I'd say on staying inside MSM was people can see into your room. As I was walking around at 10:30 pm, I notice that the lower ground rooms are not secure and lookie-loos like me were poking their heads inside the window.
So if you do stay inside MSM, just ask for a more secure room. :)
