Hotel Not in Rue Cler for Solo Traveler

I've stayed in and around the Rue Cler area (Hotel Relais Bosquet and Hotel de la Motte Picquet) on two different occasions. Any suggestions for a senior female traveler to stay other than in the Rue Cler area? I will be in Paris for 3 days (5/8-11/10). I would love to find a nice B&B.

Thanks
Ann

Don't know about a B&B in Paris, but my husband and I always stay at l'Hotel Hameau, at 48 Rue Passy, and I know it would be great for a single female. The front desk is always staffed, the place is CLEAN, the neighorhood is very safe and friendly, and it's convenient to everything. Get the #2 Metro and get off at Passy,or take a 72 or 63 bus (short walk either way, but again, this neighborhood is safe). You're just a 5-minute walk from Trocadero and a 7-minute walk from the Eiffel Tower, and the street features plenty of places to eat, get groceries for the hotel room, shop, etc. Can't recommend this place highly enough. It's "European style" so - rooms smaller than most Americans are used to, and the decor is not swank, but again, clean, friendly, and very well located. They've got a website. And their reservation policy is awesome - you only put down 3% or something in advance, and put the rest on your credit card when you check in. (Actually, the website says they charge you when you check in, but we've never paid until we check out, and we've stayed there 5 times.)

Ann - I haven't stayed here yet but the Hotel de l'Avre was highly recommended to me and I have a reservation to stay there in August.

It's not a B&B, but I can also recommend (and have stayed at) the Hotel Castex in the Marais.

hi Ann, I stayed in the Hotel Sevigne in the Marais, just steps away from St Paul metro station. A small hotel with clean, bright rooms with many shops and restaurants nearby. Also stayed at Hotel des Grandes Ecoles in the Latin Quarter, a well-run, comfortable hotel (not B&B), it has its own courtyard with a gate that's locked at night, accessible with your keycard.

When I traveled solo to Paris I really liked staying at either Hotel des Deux Iles or Hotel de Lutece on Ile Saint Louis.

Personally, I prefer the Montparnasse area--it's near-ish to the sites (if you like to walk or can easily access the metro), lots of great cafés/bistros/restaurants, the cemetiere montparnasse, catacombs, and can walk to the Jardins Luxembourg. Two hotels I have stayed at and enjoyed are the Hotel Royale le Montparnasse (stayed here twice, once on a RS tour): www.hotelleroyale.com. The other I stayed for a few days last summer and really loved it. It's just around the corner from Le Royale, called Hotel Lennox Montparnasse: http://www.paris-hotel-lenox.com/
Both are nice boutique 3-star hotels, mid-range price and amenities, small-ish rooms but typical for Paris/Europe.

Hope this helps! :)

Another vote for Hotel des Grandes Ecoles. It is a great location, staff friendly and helpful, and the garden and terrace very nice--a great place to relax under the trees and listen to birds singing when you grow weary of rushing around Paris visiting museums.

I agree that the Hotel Les Grande Ecoles is lovely and seemed very safe. If you are there when the weather is warm, I would recommend a 2nd floor room so you can leave the windows open at night. The place is also spotlessly clean -- a definite plus in my book.
We usually rent an apt in Paris, but the next hotel I would like to try is Hotel Lutece on Ile St. Louis -- it gets great reviews -- and the location is very convenient to many things.
