Hi thinking of visiting Nice this summer, have opportunity to book either Hotel Nice Garden or Hotel Le Petit Trianon,, anyone have experience or opinions on these,, or can suggest another one . We would like to be able to walk to beach and old town and have a budget of 90-110 euros a night. No luxury needed, clean and well located are priority,, a/c a plus.
We stayed at Le Petit Trianon in October 2011 and loved it. I would return in a heartbeat. I don't know how much you've read or heard about it but it is in the city center so it's wonderful for walking around to see the beach and eat at restaurants. The room we stayed in was fantastic. It was decorated in a contemporary style and a computer was provided in the room. Our room overlooked the pedestrian street and had a nice view. The room was extremely neat and clean, although small. When approaching the hotel you have to really look for the hotel sign and the hotel is on an upper floor. When we left we took the tram from about a block from the hotel to near the train station so that is an easy way to get to the hotel. The hotel does not have very many rooms so I'm sure it fills early. It was very, very good value in an expensive city.
Thanks Carole,, thats great info.
We stayed at the Nice Garden almost exactly 2 years ago. It is a small place, quite pleasant, with a nice garden (just like the name) with chairs where you can sit out in good weather. The lady who runs it speaks excellent English, and is from Germany so if you speak English, French or German you are sorted. It is very simple, spotlessly clean, very nice breakfast with home made jam (when we were there). Location is convenient to the beach but a little bit of a walk from the old town and market. It is part of the ground floor of a much larger multi storey building with a big wrought iron door. Beds comfy. Don't know about A/C as we were there in January and didn't need it.
Hi Pat - We stayed in the Hotel Le Royal and had a view of the beach and the Promenade des Anglais. Great people watching and nice sunset. Very centrally located, comfortable room with a/c but not fancy.
When my husband and I were in Nice, we stayed at Villa la Tour and loved it. It's right in the Old City, 5-6 minute walk to the ocean, clean, affordable, and comfortable (and the AC worked great). I highly recommend it.
pat, I stayed at This Hotel in Nice, and would highly recommend it. It's located at the end of the Promenade des Anglais, and is a very easy walk to the "old town". Walking to the beach is also easy, however it's a bit "rocky" so not someplace to lay and enjoy the sun. I was very fortunate in getting a room with a view that faced directly towards the Promenade des Anglais. Opening the curtains in the morning and looking down the beach (towards the airport) and seeing the incredible waters of the Cote d'Azur was wonderful! Happy travels!
