We're flying in to Charles deGaulle, picking up a car, and want a place to stay for one night before heading into eastern France. Would prefer not to drive into the city, but a place with a little charm instead of a standard near-the-airport chain hotel would be great. Willing to drive 30 minutes or so. Ideas?
Look at the Logis de France website and use their map search functions for hotels in small towns outside of Paris. They are independent, family-run hotels with character. The website can tell you about on-site parking. http://www.logishotels.com/en/
It might not be so convenient for eastern France, but we stayed our first night in Versailles at the Hotel Cheval Rouge and wonderful dinner at nearby Le Petit Marquis. Very satisfactory.
