We will be staying one night in Brussels & were hoping you might be able to recommend a good hotel within walking distance to the train station? A "good" hotel = priced around $200 per night.

The Sheraton Brussels is about a 3-4 block walk straight out from the train station. We stayed here several years ago and it was wonderful. Great location!

Le Méridien is directly across the street from Bruxelles-Central / Brussel Centraal, but note that if you arrive by Thalys, Eurostar, ICE, etc., you will be arriving at the larger Bruxelles-Midi / Brussel Zuid station. That station's neighborhood is not the nicest part of Brussels to say the least. Why not take the advice from the guidebooks and stay and someplace a little smaller and friendlier that's been recommended? At Le Méridien or a Sheraton, etc. all you are going to see is non-Belgian travelers who are there on business. Get out of a chain hotel and talk to local people. No Belgian I know around here has stayed or even walks into these places. You're really not getting much out of your one night in Brussels if you're sitting in a hotel restaurant/bar with business travelers. Check out the Rick Steves video on Hulu about Brussels and Bruges to get a sense the place.

I can recommend the Concept Hotel. The location cannot be beat, it is right in the Grand Place, which is a five-minute walk from Centraal Station. Their rooms run between €120-135 per night and include breakfast. If you decided to make a reservation though you need to be specific that you want the Grand Place location, otherwise, you may end up at their other location, Le Coup de Coeur (just around the corner, a little quieter area). My mom is still raving about this place: http://www.ledixseptieme.be/ It sits nearly across the street from Brussel Centraal, the Grand Place/Grote Markt is just around the corner.

Stayed at Ibis Brussels off Grand Place this May. Good rates, free internet, business hotel. We walked to the station in five minutes. Five minutes the other direction is the Grand Place.

Hi Jan, I stayed here in 2008. Walking time to the station and Grande Place from the hotel is 5-8 minutes. You also won't hear the noise from Grande Place either. http://www.almahotel.be/
