Hotel Munchner Kindl, Munich

My husband and I have booked a quad room at Hotel Munchner Kindl (top floor) for early May. I've been reading reviews on trip advisor and I'm getting a little nervous. Most of the reviews are good but there are a few that are concerning. Does anyone have other suggestions for possible places to stay or can you reassure me that I have nothing to worry about and that there really aren't any bed bugs?
Thanks!

I have listed Münchner Kindl on my website because many people here recommend it. I have never heard anyone on this website complain about it.

We stayed in that same room July 18-20, 2010. We were a family of 5 and they brought in an extra bed for us. The room is quite large with a small sitting area and windows with a modest view of the surrounding rooftops. The bathroom was modern and clean. On the plus side; About as big a single room as you could expect to find in a major city in Europe - perfect for a family. Also, the breakfast was huge. We had both warm and cold breakfast choices and we took advantage of it. By the time we finished eating at about 9AM, we were good until dinnertime. Friendly people at the desk and restaurant. On the down side; Lots of steps up and down. It's not a trip you want to take more times than you have to. No AC - it was around 85-90 degrees each day we were there and the attic room was quite warm. They had a fan, but that's all. Not "Oh-my-god-I'm-going-to-kill-myself" warm at night, but if you're sensitive to heat, be warned. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

Thank you both for your responses. They are definitely reassuring. We will be in Munich May 3, 4, & 5. I feel like the heat will not be a factor but I've never been to Munich so I'm not quite sure what temps are like at that time. I'm assuming if there had been bed bugs, July would have been an active month.

Hey Martha, I will be in Munich at the same time, and have been checking out the forecast. There was snow last week in Munich but it looks like it will warm up by the time we are there. Looks like we can hope to expect highs around 61 and lows in the mid 40s. I don't think heat is going to be an issue. Have a good trip!

I've stayed there 4 times for Oktoberfest and will be there again this fall. Try to get a room off the street the noise kind of echos. There is a great breakfast and the location is very central.
Prost!

We stayed there a few weeks after Randy. We weren't on the top floor, so I can't speak to the room, but the hotel was great. Easy walking distance to the center of the historic district, fairly close to the train station, and VERY friendly staff. The breakfast was awesome. If I recall correctly, there were comments either on here or on TripAdvisor where people complained about the smoke from the bar (the breakfast room is a bar at night - not a college party bar, just a local pub kind of thing). We noticed it, but barely. It wasn't a huge deal (and I'm pretty sensitive to smoke). On the top floor you probably won't even know. Great choice. If we make it back to Munich, we'll probably stay there again. :)

lana a couple of thoughts ... first, although I have stayed in Munich I have never stayed there. But ... There have been several reviews on TA (is that where you saw the bad review?) since then, both from English speakers and non-English speakers. Nobody else, of the reviews I read, mentioned creepy crawlies. I would have thought if it were a genuine problem everybody would have been shouting from the rooftops. Sometimes it is real. Sometimes people just want to cause trouble for the owners. It doesn't get the highest reviews of all Munich hotels. Have you tried the Uhland? If you don't want heat then Munich in August probably isn't the best place for you, the top floor of a hotel probably isn't for you (heat rises), and a non-air conditioned place probably isn't for you. Good luck in your search...

We traveled to Munich in May, stayed at Hotel Munchner Kindl (four flights up) and were very pleased with our decision to stay there. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind walking up four flights of stairs. The temps were very pleasant in early May. Martha

You're right Nigel, it sure seems like if the place was crawling with bedbugs there would be more complaints on tripadvisor than just one. Hotel Uhland is already booked up. Martha, I just messaged you privately to ask about your experience at this hotel, before I realized that you had already replied. I think that we'll be ok with heat and flights of stairs are ok too....I just don't want to bring home any unwelcome visitors! Thanks!
