Hotel Marignan, Paris--Anyone stayed there?

Has anyone stayed in Hotel Marignan? I've read the reviews on tripadvisor.com but am wondering about the location. Is it in a safe area? It says it's on a quiet street: does that mean quiet and well-lit or quiet and dingy? Any other feedback on this hotel? Thanks in advance.

Erica, our family of four has stayed at the Marignan twice, in the summers of 2004 and 2006. I would classify the street as more quiet and well-lit. Now, I assume you mean "Paris side-street quiet" as opposed to a Paris main boulevard. There's normally some street noise to contend with everywhere, and if there's an important soccer game happening all bets are off. It is in a safe area, in fact there are much more expensive hotels right next door. The location is the BEST...a short walking distance to Notre Dame and there's a great outdoor market two blocks away at Place Maubert. It is by no means fancy..if you need a nice lobby and elevators and opulent furnishings, you'd best look elsewhere. For our family of four, the room is just a place to flop after extensive touring so we are easily pleased I suppose. The staff are friendly, English is spoken, and the price is VERY good for such a great location. And it has rooms for four people, which is not easy to find close in.
