Hotel Marignan

Has anyone stayed here in Paris? What do you think about a quad room with 2 adults and 2 children?

Deb, we've stayed in a quad room with 2 adults and 2 children many times at the Hotel Marignan over the past 5 years. As you probably know, quad rooms in good locations in Paris that don't set you back some serious coin are quite rare in Paris. It's not fancy. There're no elevators. There's no room service. No boob tube. It's kind of funky, in a good way. But it's not scary and the neighborhood is very nice and the close proximity to the tourist sites cannot be beat.

For us, a hotel room is a place to store our stuff and flop into beds after a day of hardcore tourism. Sometimes we don't feel like the whole restaurant thing, so we go to the store and get wine and deli food and eat it in the hotel's dining room. I'm saying this because you may need to take this recommendation with a grain of salt since we're not picky and we're cheap.

Place Maubert two blocks away has a great outdoor market, and the best map shop I've ever seen is a half block to the east.

I mean, if yer into maps and stuff.

We spent three day there this June. We had a quad room with 2 adults and 3 kids on the 6th floor.

No elevator, it is a slog up those stairs, and don't forget anything you have to go back to the room for.

It was very conveniently located. Near bus lines, metro, tourist sites and interesting stores.

Not fancy or even close to it. Crummy hallways but the room was clean and had a full bathroom! When needed we also used the hallway toilets. It was quiet when the college kids left. Could be noisy, bring earplugs for any hotel you stay in.

Staff was like the Soup Nazi, don't follow the rules-get scolded. Breakfast was baguette, cheese, nutella and jelly. And don't stay too long for breakfast of they will ask you to leave and give your seat to someone else. They arrainged airport shuttle for us, they were very nice as we were leaving.

All we did was sleep there, we left at 8 am and returned at 10 or 11 exhausted. If you have more questions let me know. How old are the kids?

My kids are 8 and 12. We really never spend any time in our room except to shower and sleep when we are traveling. We try to get the cheapest clean place as possible. On our trip to Switzerland in 07 we slept in the straw and the kids loved it.

Deb, Jeff is right...breakfast service is not a leisurely affair. But he failed to mention a crucial breakfast component..coffee! The coffee is plentiful and good and the kids get really good hot chocolate. Having to get down there for breakfast gets everyone up and out the door and fed and ready to hit the town. Ten minute walk to Notre Dame...how good is that? I defy anyone to provide info about a similarly priced QUAD room with breakfast that's not in a scary neighborhood or far from the action.

Also, please note that there is a quad room on the first floor right across from the dining room. I believe it's the only room on the first floor. No stairs. Ask if that one's available, it's a sweet deal.

As noted, it's not luxury and it's basic. I've seen other people's reviews of this hotel that weren't flattering but I assume there was a conflict between the reality of what they were willing to spend and the type of lodging meeting that limitation. This is Paris, after all!

Neil is right

The neighborhood is not the least bit scary. It is a easy walk to Lux. Gardens which has a kids playground, my 8 year old's delight. The location is great. Quiet street.

We had rented a car which we dropped off at Gare Du Lion and it was a short, easy, bus ride with luggage to the hotel area. Lots of quick and easy restaurants nearby too.
