staying 2 nights in Paris in early July, family of 4, 2 kids ages 12 and 14, got similar rates for connecting rooms at Londres and Empereur what should I do ? or stay at Leveque get 2 double rooms and save 240 euros for 2 niths, thanks,
I can only comment on Grand Leveque. We really enjoyed our stay there and the location was good for us. I highly recommend paying extra and using their airport shuttle. We wasted so much time getting to the hotel and were exhausted. When I saw that sign on the check in desk, I really wished I had known about it. It probably would have seemed expensive to me before the trip but it seemed well worth the money by the time we got to the hotel.
I have stayed at the Londres-Eiffel and can recommend it highly. I have stayed there twice; once on a RS Paris City tour. They are very helpful. I have not stayed at the other 2 places.
Ellen Please decide soon and book now! Quad rooms, if you choose one, are few and far between. I am not familiar with these hotels. I would go with which ever one is closest to the "islands". Make sure they have AC. It has been very hot all over Western Europe the last 5 years. You will have a great time with your kids in Europe. Bobbie
WE stayed at Londres Eiffel with a RS tour at the end of August. Rooms are nice, but very small. Our mini fridge was kept in the closet! Just around the corner is a patisserie which has excellent formules (sandwich + drink + pastry.) We would order and just walk 5 minutes and eat with the Eiffel Tower as our backdrop.
It's a few minutes walk to Rue Cler. We ate at the cafe that RS recommends (very limited menu - about 10 items) and also at the Italian place next door. Enjoyed food at both places. Lots of his recommended restaurants were closed because of Aug holidays. Launderette is across the street and there is a mini-mart around the corner. I can't remember is they had AC. The winds kicked up at night and we had to wear jackets in August. We just opened the window.
Which hotel did you end up staying? I'm considering hotel de L'Emperur for our trip in May.
We used Hotel L'Empereur a few years ago. The room was basic but absolutely clean. The bathroom appeared to be a recent remodel and was larger than typical European hotel bathrooms. The best part was the location. It was in a small residential area but very close to the stores on Rue Cler and the metro.
I've not stayed at the Leveque and I agree with the AC comment. Avoid it in July if it doesn't have it. It's located on Rue Cler so it's about an extra 5 minutes from the metro stop which is worth considering. The Empereur is very close to the metro. I don't know where Londres is at. I've used the Roissy bus to get into Paris from CDG. They run every 15 to 20 minutes and there are no stops until it arrives at the Opera. It's easy to hop on the metro at Opera and get to the Rue Cler area. The bus is 10 euro each and a metro ticket is about 1.25 euro. I don't know how that compares to a hotel van. The van would be marginally quicker and definitely worth the extra cost if you don't pack light. If the Leveque has AC, I'd stay there. Book it now. It won't be there long.
Ellen, I can recommend the Londres Eiffel. Stayed there with a RS tour in 2007 and loved the super close proximity to the Eiffel Tower. As mentioned, lots of restaurants and cafes, a couple of bakeries, grocery store, drug store, and laundromat near by. It's a 5 min walk to Rue Cler or the Invalides. Small, clean rooms with a refrigerator, nice bathroom. I read on Trip Advisor that they recently remodeled. In previous versions of the RS Paris book there was a note that if you stayed an extra night (I was on a tour, got there early), and showed them your book they gave you a free ticket to the Bateau Mouches (Seine boat ride). It's worth about 10 euro - I thought it was a nice bonus. I'm booked there again in September! Hope you have a great time in Paris!
