Hotel Location - Airport or Downtown?

My family will be travelling to Paris in May for 3 nights. We are trying to determine the better choice - staying at a CDG hotel or reserving a near downtown hotel. Any suggestions?

My recommendation is to stay somewhere in central Paris. CDG is about 25 km (15 mi) northeast of Paris. It can take an hour by taxi or about 40 mins by train into the Gare du Nord (one of Paris' main train stations). Most of the things you probably want to see or do will be "in" Paris and even if you want to see things that are not in central Paris, they will most likely not be in the direction of CDG. Where is the best place to stay? That's a whole different topic. Try searching "Paris places to stay". If you want specific suggestions for a place to stay, then more details would be useful. How many are in your family? What ages? How much are you willing to pay? What month are you going?

The better choice for sure is staying in Paris itself. Check accor hotel chain for lodging that suits your budget and requirements. They have many diff levels of stay from budget to luxury some incl brfast.

Sandy,, where in the world would staying by an airport be a good choice,,, unless one was flying in at night and leaving the next day in the morning.! The airport is far from city, and you will pay 11 euros , each way,, every day, per person, plus waste up to 40 minutes one way, each day, yuck. Stay in central Paris , a short visit its nice to be central and just be able to walk out your door and see sights. Post a seperate question with your hotel requirements and budget ( in euros) and many here will be able to give specific recommendations based on their own experiences or knowledge.
I will tell you this , you have left it late, May is very busy, and it sounds like you will need a triple or quad room( kids count as a person, not free like in States). How old are kids, if they are older teens you may wish to consider two hotel rooms.

You will want to savor every minute of your short visit to Paris. Evenings there are magical. Yes quads are hard to find so we usually get an apartment and stay longer. We did stay in a quad at Hotel la Bourdonnaise years ago with a petite view of the Eiffel Tower. Good luck
