Hotel Kensington, Paris

I have an old Rick Steves book that suggests Hotel Kensinton in Paris near Rue Cler as an affordable choice. Has anyone stayed there? Do you have suggestions for something that would be 110 euros or below? I'm looking for economy near Rue Cler. Thanks!

Economy would definitely be the Hotel Kensington's basic rooms with not even enough room to fit your luggage into. If you want a decently sized room there you'll need to pay more for a bigger room. Also a budget hotel for rue Cler is Royal Phare. Also try the Hotel du Champ de Mars.

We stayed there for five nights on our spring 2010 trip and thought it was fine. I would stay there again.

I have stayed there 4 or 5 times, the last in Oct, 2012 (and reviewed it on Trip Advisor). The basic single rooms are small (especially the bathrooms) but one double room on each floor has what I call a full-size "American" bath, rare in a small French hotel such as this. I think is is good value for the money. Make your reservations directly through their web site and ask for this type of room. WiFi is free but available only in the lobby. I prefer staying in the 7th arr. and being close to the Eiffel Tower and Rue Cler. Lots of cafes and restaurants in the area. Walking distance to the Metros Ecole Militaire and Alma Marceau (across the Pont de l'Alma). I too have stayed in the Hotel du Champ de Mars which is right off the Rue Cler; it is more expensive than the Kensington but still a nice choice hotel.

We must have had the special room, because I do remember the bathroom being on the large side.
