We are spending three nights in Vienna in August. I have looked on line at the hotels Rick recommends and like the looks of the Hotel Kugel, but it didn't have great ratings on another site. Has anyone stayed there recently and what was your experience? Any other recommendations? We will be in Europe for five weeks so I am trying to be economical wherever possible.

Rick used to stay with Tina & Kaled @ K&T Boardinghouse. The rates are the lowest in town, and the location cannot be beat. They have added a second property since we stayed with them a few years ago. The subway is under their street, and you can be within the Ringstrasse in 5 minutes. The big bazaar on Saturdays is within walking distance. And a large supermarket is across the street. We just love the royal palaces of Vienna, including the downtown apartments and museums. The Hapsburgs lived in complete opulence.
And the city's music is not bad either.
