Hotel in Strasbourg, France

We will be traveling to Strasbourg and wanted some suggestions on a hotel & good area to stay? We're trying to keep the prices moderate, but noticed that most of the hotels are a little pricey?!? I've read that the "Petite France area" is a good location. Would one day be enough in this city...to see a few sights?
Thanks for your help...Jan

we stayed at reasonable chain Hotel Etap across from train station. Perfect for 1 night and to see sights. no more than 1 day is necessary in Strasbourg IMO.
The train station is a modern wonder of architecture. In gen walking around Strasbourg after dark is not recommended.

I usually stay at an Ibis, or Etap, or Mercure or Novotel, they are part of the Accor Hotels, a French Chain. This time I have booked a room at the Hotel Metropole in front of the main train station. For 2 persons, (twin) it is about 64 euros or about $88.00 The ibis is currently around 90 Euros or $123.00. So it really depends on what you want to spend. I have never stayed at the Hotel Metropole, but the reviews I have looked at seem to all be favorable. Both of these rates are without breakfast. You can always find a cafe to have a breakfast. I usually use tripadvisor.com, euro-bookings.com, booking.com, to look at the reviews. Now, the ibis has always been what I have expected when I have stayed in one, but I just didn't want to spend $123. However, sometimes, depending on where you are going, you need to spend over $100+, especially in the larger cities. Also I try to stay at a local hotel and not just chains, but sometimes you don't have a choice if you can't find a revie on the one you are looking at to book, or you are just not sure of the location, type of hotel etc. , but with internet, you can go to several areas and look about the hotel in question as you know. Take care and have a great trip.

Hi Jan, My family and I just booked two rooms at the All Seasons in Strasbourg. We are going in July and I think that we paid $91 CAD per room. Paula :-)

Can I just ask where the repeated claims I've seen on this forum that Strasbourg is unsafe at night come from? I stayed there a couple of years ago and never felt unsafe in the slightest in the city centre. Admittedly I'm male and in the prime of life, but I'm not the most self-confident and can get a bit unnerved in sleazier areas. Maybe the area immediately around the station might be a bit iffy, but that's true of many cities.
