hotel in St. Malo

Hotel Le Croiseur. One block inside the walls from the recreational marina. It's close to all the good seafood spots. It runs about a hundred bucks a night, which is more than I usually pay, but I really like the place so much that I've gone back four or five times over a bunch of years. There's an ETAP on the south side of the outer basin for about half the price. I usually stay at these, but I just like being in the middle of the old town. There's also an even cheaper Formule1 about three miles south of the old town. I've stayed there once and it's just like all the others.

Hotel Elizabeth in St. Malo. It's inside the old, walled area, and the owners are so very nice and helpful. I'd love to return!

Well, I can tell you where NOT to stay - La Rotande! Worst hotel experience I've had in Europe yet. If you can afford it, staying within the walled city or very, very close (and map it- all hotels claim to be "close") is highly preferable. St. Malo is rather spread out, so unless you want to walk for 30 minutes or take the bus, which stops running very early, or pay for a cab, you're going to want to be in the center of it all.
