Any recommendation for a mid- price hotel in San Sebastian? We really wanted to stay at the Maria Christina but it will be closed for rennovation. The other hotels I have looked at were not appealing. I just want a modern bathroom and a pretty lobby. Thanks!
In the Spring of 2008, after spending a week in Barcelona, we flew to San Sebastian and loved it. We spent 3 nights at the "Hostal Bahia" San Martin, 54 bis - 20.007 Donostia, San Sebastian. http://www.hostalbahia.com/portada.html It was convenient, reasonable, great breakfast and lovely rooms. Book a superior room. Friendly staff, clean hotel, but small lobby. From there, we took a day trip (Bus tour, half day) to Bilbao for the Guggenheim Museum which was terrific. Just walking the old streets and along the water in San Sebastian was uplifting. We then rented a car and drove to Burgos (1 night); Leon (1 night) and on to Santiao de Compostela for 3 nights. One of our best European trips. You'll love it.
I can recommend someplace with modern bathrooms but maybe not what you want because it does not have a pretty lobbyit doesn't really have a lobby, more like a small common area. It is a new pension (~2 years old) on a quiet street in the old city, with very comfortable pillow-top mattress on the queen size bed. Minimalist/feng shui decor and the owner/innkeeper is very nice and will give lots of recommendations. The room was very good for the price. http://pensioniturriza.com/web/
