We are looking for a hotel in Salzburg for our September 2012 trip. We will only be there for one night, and will probably spend most of our day out in Hallstat... but we want to overnight in Salzburg. Any suggestions?
We stayed two nights at the Der Salzburger Hof. www.dersalzburgerhof.at or [email protected] It is two short blocks from the train station, family owned, reasonable rates, and has a car park. The surprising thing is that the resaurant serves Indian cuisine, which is the best we have ever had.
We've stayed several times at the Hotel Elefant, in the heart of the old town. It's just off the Getreidegasse (the main street where the Mozart birth house is located) and close to the Salzburg Cathedral. Great hotel, nice rooms, friendly and family-run.
We were in Salzburg just a week ago, and stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Drei Kreuz. It's a small, family-owned hotel. About 60 Euro a night with a complimentary breakfast buffet. Nothing fancy - just a nice, clean room, and quiet. The desk clerks are very helpful and accommodating if you have questions about area attractions. It's a 10 minute walk to the center of town, and a little farther to the Hauptbahnhof.
Booking.com and Venere.com have dozens of bed and breakfasts in Salzburg at very favorable rates. I've found some of the nicest B&B experiences we've ever experienced in our two trips to Salzburg. Everyone we ran into has been very accommodating.
I stayed at the Golden Krone. It's on the other side of the rive, but a very easy walk across. And the area it's in is very nice. http://www.hotel-goldenekrone.com/ Pam
