I had a good stay at this place: http://www.grandehotelporto.com/en/ It has a very plush lobby, but prices are very reasonable. It's located in the center of the main pedestrian shopping street, and there is a metro station around the corner. Most importantly it has excellent air conditioning which is very important in muggy Porto.

we also enjoyed our stay at this hotel in Porto while on a Rick Steve's tour. Not sure what the price is but it is a very nice hotel.
