Hotel in Paris withing walking distance to most sights

The sites most tourists visit in Paris are scattered over a pretty large area, so no one hotel can fit that requirement. And with the Metro covering the entire city, you can reach any site quickly. Is there one particular site you had in mind?

You should make sure your hotel is close to a metro station. You can find a cool interactive map of all Paris metro lines on www.ratp.fr.

Lines 1 and 4 cross the city north-south and east-west, other lines go in circles or waves.

If you're interested in something very specific, you can try to get a hotel closeby. But in general hotels at walking distance from important sights are expensive. If you just get a hotel one or 2 stations away, you save money, don't lose much time, and enjoy more local life.

As a rule of thumb, 3 stops means 5 minutes. 6 stops 10 minutes, and so on.

Worth adding that there are lots of stairs in the Paris metro... so if walking is a problem, be careful. Many Parisians actually prefer taking the bus above ground to avoid stairs. A bit slower and shakier, but more local experience.

Diane, I personally prefer Hotel Concortel near Place de la Madeleine. Very convenient to many sights and Gare St-Lazare. I will be there next week. I have been tempted to stay at Hotel Madison on the left bank. Check the Trip Advisor web site for hotels that meet your style.

First I have to ask do you enjoy walking. We stayed at a simple hotel within an easy walk of the Louve, ND. Our first day we walked past the Louvre, down the CDL to the Arch T, over to Napolian Tomb and back to hotel. It was a full day but a great day. And it was an easy walk. I am at my office but if you might be interested send me a private note and I will find the name of hotel. Also close to metro, some nice restaurants, and easy walk to Sourbone
