Can you recommend a moderately priced hotel in Paris or how to find one that will be close to the key sites? We plan to see Notre Dame, the Eiffel tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Louve (sp?).
Nancy ,when is trip, if its September , or June these hotels may be full but they are clean and well located budget-moderate hotels I have stayed in. None are deluxe , all have smaller rooms as is normal for Paris , but all have A/C ( good for summer) and most have mini fridge in room. None have a concierge, or bell boys etc carry your own stuff. Hotel Diana ( excellent location, comfy bedding) Hotel Eugenie ( very central location, steps from Seine) Hotel Le Regent( standard rms tiny, deluxe rooms are great)
Hotel Place Du Louvre( get the regular rooms not the duplex rooms only ) You didn't post your budget so have no idea if these fall within it For more specific answers it helps if you post your budget in Euros, everyones idea of "moderate" can vary quite a bit.
Hi Nancy, Just visited Paris in March of this year. I know that many Paris visitors love the idea of staying at a small botique hotel, but due to our budget and location needs we ended up at the Holiday Inn - Notre Dame. It was perfectly located, about a 5 minute walk to Notre Dame and maybe 10-15 minutes walking to the Louvre. It is less than half a block to a main Metro Hub with several lines, we took the RER from CDG to our stop and walked about 2 minutes to our hotel, and travelled all around Paris from that metro stop as well (St. Michelle). We had a great experience. The hotel has a roof-top terrace with views of the city open to hotel guests only, which is really nice. Check it out on Trip Advisor for many, many reviews. (As a side note, we booked on-line and were able to get free wi-fi as part of the package.) Happy travels!
Hi Nancy, When I was in Paris in 2010, my daughter and I stayed at the Hotel Champ De mars in the 7th about 10 a minute walk to the Eiffel tower. The hotel has a small elevator and the owners are very friendly. Link below for the hotel.
http://www.hotelduchampdemars.com/ There is also an excellent Italian restaurant down the street called La Taverna I believe. the metro is also a short walk from the hotel have a great time !
An easy way to find hotels close to your key sites is to use the map view and filters in websites like booking.com. You can display landmarks and learn about the city neighborhoods / arrondissements. Then read reviews on tripadvisor.com to learn about specific places. Then you can find the hotel's website which may have discounts or rooms not available through booking engines. I liked the Royal Phare near the Eiffel. It is clean, near the metro and has a grocery store next door. And Rue Cler is around the corner.
I just stayed this week at Hotel Lindbergh which is recommended by Steve. Also, stayed at Hotel De l'Arcade which was also an excellent choice. They were extremely helpful with directions and the rooms in both places were very nice. You can walk, bus or take the Metro to everything from these two hotels. My last night was in Hotel Verlain in East Paris. It was highly rated on Travel Advisor but I would NOT recommend Hotel Verlain. East Paris is not so nice and the staff was not friendly or nice especially Gene at the front desk.
