We will be traveling to Paris from a cruise ship at Le Havre. Our plan is to take the train into Paris on a Sunday morning, stay overnight in Paris and then take a train out to Cherbourg to catch up to our cruise ship. Question, is there a decent (inexpensive) hotel by the train station, St. Lazare?
I have stayed at and like the Hotel Chopin (www.hotelchopin.fr), which is in that general area (don't usually recommend it here because the district isn't that touristy). It's inside a very attractive nineteenth-century shopping arcade (closed off in the evening, but they will unlock the gate for you if you ring the bell). The only possible issue is that I've seen some Americans on tripadvisor who thought the en-suite bathrooms were primitive, although I had no problem.
You might investigate Hotel Helios Opera, which is about 2 blocks from Gare Saint Lazare. Three star hotel. Very clean and quiet. The web address on their card is: www.hotels-emeraude.com
Bon voyage!
Opera Deauville is directly across the street from the station on Rue d'Amsterdam. Very friendly and helpful staff and also across the street from a bakery!
I will second the Hotel Chopin---in fact I'm staying there this June. It's as charming as it gets!
