Hotel in Nice

We are flying into Nice and need a hotel for one night before we move on to a rented home (somewhere). Any suggetions? Is it worth driving to Villefrache-sur-Mer?
Any "must see" items in Nice, we may only be there for 24 hours! Thanks,

It would be so easy just to give the name of a Hotel.....but Nice shouldn't be taken for granted. You didn't mention what season you would be there. Also, reserving a room soon enough so that you get your choice. Hotel Suisse with a balcony would give you one of the best views of the sea and City. If you are fortunate to get a room at Hotel Suisse, ask the staff about the "secret" door that opens to an elevator that takes you up to Castle Hill, quite nice with some amazing views of the Riviera. Get your hands on Rick's France GBook and read all about Nice and surroundings.

Is it worth driving to Villefrache-sur-Mer? Parking, unless deep in the off season, is extremely difficult there, and buses and trains go there very frequently from Nice for only single Euros and right into the centre. I have previously posted here how very difficult driving and parking there are, even for me as a very experienced European driver used to very heavy traffic and extremely narrow passages.

I agree with Nigel, don't drive in Nice if you don't have to. The buses and trains are frequent and convenient. I can recommend the Hotel le Royal. We had a room overlooking the water and the Boulevard des Anglais. Must see sights depend on your interests. I'd recommend looking at a guidebook to see what interests you and coming back with a more specific question. Enjoy!

I like staying near the train station. I stayed at Hotel Durante, which is a 2-minute walk from the station. It is clean, quiet, on a cul-de-sac of its own, and the rates were reasonable. I understand that the Nice train station is easily reached by bus from the airport.

We are staying at the Mercure Marche Aux Fleurs. We have stayed there before. There are some really nice apartments for rent in the area. If you send me a PM, I can give you the name of an owner to contact through HomeAway. We couldn't stay at his apartment because of the number of steps up to the apartment.
