We're taking an early-morning flight out of Munich to Paris, and were looking for recommendations for a decent place to stay for one night near the airport (Franz Josef Strauss). We just need a nice, clean room to spend the night; it would be a bonus if it were near something fun or interesting (but maybe that's a bit much to ask). Thanks for your input, Scott
The last two years we have stayed in Freising at the Hotel zur Gred. We have enjoyed both this small monastery town and the Gasthof-Hotel.
The Hotel zur Gred is on Bahnhof Str about 10 minutes walk from the train station. From the train station a dedicated airport shuttle leaves every 20 minutes.
Regards, Gary
Do you realize that you don't have to stay at the airport in order to catch an early flight? Trains run from Munich city center all the way to the airport. Stay somewhere fun around Marienplatz and catch the train all the way to the airport.
Hi Scott,
An excellent place to stay is the Park Hotel (Best Western) in Erding, Germany. It's about 15 minutes from the airport. The Park Hotel is two blocks from the train station and just a 5 minute walk to the very charming old town and pedestrian zone of Erding.

Can someone give me an idea of how long it takes to get to the airport form the Marienplatz area on the S-bahn?
Thanks, Scott
40 minutes, +/- 4 minutes, from Marienplatz to the S-bahn station under the airport central area. The S8 leaves every 20 minutes (at :01, :21, and :41 past the hour, starting at 3:21), and goes to the east, through Ostbahnhof, and takes 36 minutes. The S1 leaves 1 minutes later and goes west, through the Hauptbahnhof and Neufahrn, and takes longer, 44 minutes, so it pays to be one minute earlier. The S1 breaks at Neufahrn, so you have to be on the correct (rear) end of the train.
Everything you want to know about transit in Munich, including schedules to the airport, can be found at www.mvv-muenchen.de; it can be display in English.
... but if you are determined to take rooms in a hotel near the Munich airport, just type HOTEL NEAR MUNICH AIRPORT into the search box at the top right of this very page... there's information to be seen. Gute Reise! P
For hotels check with www.hrs.com. I suggest to stay in the town of Erding, which is beautiful and where there is plenty to do, including riding Europe's longest water slide. Alternatively check any place along the S-Bahn lines 1 and 8 which go directly into the airport.
Andreas, I agree. Hrs.com (or hrs.de) is great. I found a great hotel near the theatre, and the rooms were clean, breakfast was great, and it was close to the metro.
