Looking for accomadation in Madrid, Sevilla, Granada, and Cordoba. Three adults and one 4-year-old. Would like "charm" type and good location. Thanks in advance
I can recommend Hostal Acapulco in Madrid (not a hostel)...we had a quad room there at 85€ per night. It's located a couple of blocks from Puerta del Sol. Hotel is in building with two others on lower floors. Balconies overlook Plaza del Carmen. Highly-rated on trip advisor. Go there for photos/reviews. I would stay there again.
We visited all of those places in May and I would highly recommend each place we stayed both for charm and location, but I don't know how well they would work for children. The one that probably would is Casa 1800 in Sevilla. A small boutique hotel in Moorish style (rooms on levels arranged around a central patio or lobby), in a great location just half a block from the cathedral plaza and alcazar, but with its back in the Barrio Santa Cruz so you can easily walk into the narrow car-free lanes. The rooftop suites have private hottubs, but the rest of the roof terrace is open to all, and offers great views of the Giralda. Casa 1800 just opened a new sister hotel in Granada, so you might look into that. Casa Morisca also gets high marks for charm and location (I heard Matt Damon and his family stayed there in March, 2010). We enjoyed staying on the Alhambra hill, but that may not work for you with the child. In Cordoba, we loved Hospederia de El Churrasco, but I don't know how well they accommodate small children. You might check out Hacienda Posada de Vallina, which is just steps from the Mezquita. Our hotel in Madrid, Husa Paseo del Arte, was very well-located but a modern charmless business-class hotel. Try Hotel Europa near Puerta del Sol; everyone seems to love it.
Lorena, I know I'm kind of punting with this answer but I'd suggest you investigate the Tripadvisor.com website. Lots of honest hotel guest opinions for each city you've listed. You can filter for hotels, B&Bs, by price, etc.
suggest you look for family run places (many times the family lives there) in Sevilla and Granada. Didn't spend overnight in Cordoba but suspect the same (the area around the mosque). In Sevilla you want to look for places in the santa cruz area, and Granada the old town area are also full of family run cheap places. Try a place in the santa cruz area with roof top and court yard garden - you'll like it.
We just got back from our trip this week and were really happy with our hotel picks... Granada: Hotel Santa Isabel La Real This hotel in the Albayzin was our favorite on our trip through Spain. Contrary to Rick's perception, we felt as safe or safer in the neighborhood than elsewhere on our trip and other websites seem to confirm this. http://www.hotelsantaisabellareal.com/ Tripadvisor Review Sevilla: El Rey Moro Hotel Cute hotel in the Barrio Santa Cruz with great service and a nice location. http://www.hotelelreymoro.com/ Tripadvisor Review Madrid: Hotel Europa I'll second the recommendation for this hotel. It doesn't have a lot of charm, but is well situated and a good value. http://www.hoteleuropa.eu/?lang=en Tripadvisor Review I don't have a recommendation for Cordoba. We did the town as a daytrip from Sevilla. On a side-note, I'd imagine with three adults and a young one, you will probably have to book two rooms, look for places with family rooms, or consider apartments for the space you need.
Laura's suggestoin of El Rey Moro in Sevilla is brilliant. It is on a charming square just around the corner from the hotel I suggested, and is probably more suitable for children. The location is perfect. The only reason we didn't stay there is we wanted that rooftop terrace at Casa 1800.
Thank you all for your suggestions!. I will look them up!!
I've been reading about Hostal Gonzalo and Pesion Arcos in Madrid. Any advise on either one? Hostal Gonzalo is near the Prado and Pension Arcos is near Puerta del Sol. Which is better location? Thanks
Hi Lorena,
In Madrid we've stayed at Hostel Gonzalo and Hostel Acapulco...both are good options. The location for Hostel Acapulco for might be a little more convenient to public transportation, etc. but I think that either would be a good option. For Corboba we thought that Hotel Gonzalez was a good location and good value. A very helpful staff.
