We are planning a Portugal/Spain trip for mid May. In RS Guide book May 15 is mentioned as a date that could be difficult booking a room in Madrid due to St Isadore's Feast Day (patron saint of Spain). We have not bought AL tics yet and have flexibility to avoid this date. Has anyone experienced Madrid on this date? Any problems finding a hotel? Just wondering if the entire week around this date could pose a problem finding a hotel for three nights.

If you book something in the next few weeks, you should not have a problem. San Isidro is a holiday in Madrid only...and while other Spanish people do come into the city for a vacation, it's nowhere near as bad as some other times of year. A quick check of some of the hotels I use in Madrid shows they all have availabilities in and around May 15th. I would avoid hotels around spots like Puerta del Sol because it can get noisy. But San Isidro is a wonderful event, and you shouldn't miss it. It'll be crowded....but a lot of fun!
