In Avignon, we stayed at Le Colbert. Two blocks from the train station and one block from a major parking garage. Highly rated by RS and www.tripadvisor.com. Nice and clean. 88Eu In Lyon, we stayed at Hotel Central. Very nice. It's also 3 doors away from a major moderate-priced restaurant that seats over 400 people. We saw at least 200+ seated and eating.

We enjoyed the Hotel Celestin. It has a great breakfast room and is absolutely centrally located, on a side street but in the middle of the main pedestrian shopping street and major sites. If you are staying for a week or more we have a great apartment recommendation.

Lyon restaurants are generally very good. We only had limited time but made the most of it by having the lunch menu at some of the recommended restaurants. (Sorry cant remember their names)
