I'll be visiting Hannover at a time when hotels are over priced and fully booked due to trade shows. Recommendations for a hotel located near the city center that is perhaps less well known than those contained on Hotels.com or Expedia. About $150 range. Many thanks!

Impossible. During the big trade shows in Hannover even visitors of those shows book hotels in Hamburg and Kassel and ICE-train in in the mornings. However, check with nearby towns Celle, Peine or Braunschweig. Also www.hrs.com usually is the best source for availability even during trade shows.

Nothing is impossible, LOL.Hope there have a cancellation the day you contact them, it does happen!
Try Hanover Suite Hotel, do not use a booking agency but contact hotel directly through their web site, google for it. Hubby stayed there last June and loved it. Good price and location.
What exactly are your dates??

I would heed Andreas' recommendation were I you ....
... For what it's worth, not knowing your needs, I have once taken a room at the Deutsche Bahn HBf in Hannover. It was spartan, but comfortable. However, people attending trade conferences will not likely overlook this resource.
