Hotel in Geneva

We are returning our rental car to the French side Geneva airport. Any suggestions on hotel in area for the night before our flight to US? Also, we would like to book a room somewhere between Lausanne and Geneva for one night on our way to Lausanne (for a meeting to avoid the pricey hotels there where we have to book for the other two nights). Suggestions on either of these options would be appreciated. Thank you.

In Lausanne we stayed about 1.5 blocks from the rail station. The property was a delight with a view of Lake Geneva. Lausanne Guesthouse & Backpacker with quiet , xtra clean private rooms w/ share bathroom. We
paid equiv $85 in 2009. I had never stayed in a share hotel bef. I was very pleased, no breakfast but share kitchen avail. or just eat at a cafe close by. It is is RS guidebk. Worth a look even if you are unsure about share bathroom.

My advice to all car renters is to be absolutely sure you need a rental car, because life can be so much less complicated without one. Staying at train station hotels is very convenient and easy and Geneva is no exception. There are many hotels near to the airport, but the train from Geneva Station to Airport is also quick and cheap (free) and lets you stay at a train station (downtown) hotel rather than some boring Holiday Inn in the middle of nowhere other than the airport.

Thanks for the posts. We do love the trains in Switzerland and Italy, but on this trip, we need to travel by auto.

We stayed at Hotel des Arcades in Geneva, across from the central train station, the night before we flew back from Geneva. It was quite nice, and inexpensive by Geneva standards. To and from the airport to the train station is very quick. Another option, if you plan on keeping the car until you leave, is staying in a small French town, say 10-20 minute drive from the airport; getting to the French side of the airport is very simple. There's Ferney-Voltaire right at the border; we stayed in a town just a little further past Ferney, and the place was great. I can dig out the name of the B&B if you want it; send me a message.
