Hotel in Colone-Essen-Aachen area and Oldenburg.

I would appreciate any suggestions for a tidy Rick Steve's genre hotel in the region of Cologne-Essen-Aachen. We will have a car so it could be in a small town or off-the-beaten-path. Also looking for lodging in the Oldenburg-Wildeshausen area.
