Hotel in Brussels for a single traveler on a budget

First trip to Belgium arriving Oct. 4; plan on staying in Brussels and taking several day trips to see other areas. Want to be in central area, easy to walk to main places. I currently have a reservation at Hotel Welcome in Fish Market area and also one a Hotel St. Michel right on Grand Place. Know they are both older. Can't make up mind on location - room overlooking Grand Place will have great view and lots of noise. Any other ideas.

We stayed at the Hotel Welcome in March and enjoyed it very much. The host, I think his name is Robert, could not have been nicer or more helpful. The area around the Fish Market has lots of restaurants and the hotel is but steps away from the metro. Enjoy

In nearly all Belgian hotels and b&b's one will notice that the price for a room for a single person is hardly a bit cheaper than a room for 2 persons. But this kind of treatment or 'discrimination' is rather universal I guess. The only exception I know over here is 'Vrienden op de Fiets'. If you're hiking or cycling on your own in the Netherlands or Belgium, you will pay 18,50 euro for a room. And if you're two, you will pay exactly the double or 37 euro for a night.
