Would like a clean, reasonable Gaestehaus in Berlin near Tiergarten if possible but price is more important. Danke!
I stayed at the Hotel Sachsenhof last year. It is pretty close to the Tiergarten, and only a block away from Nollendorfplatz. I don't remember exactly how much it was, but it couldn't have been very expensive if I stayed there! I remember the room being huge and the breakfast was good. Also, the best Italian food I've ever eaten was at an Italian restaurant 2 doors away!
Thanks, Atlanta, sounds good. For Rick, in case you are lurking on this board: We are having a great time in Rothenburg, staying at Gaestehof Raidel. We see your name all over town, like you are the deputy mayor or something!
Spoke too soon. Hotel site quotes E220 per night for double room. That comes to ca. $300 at current exchange rates. Anybody know of something more reasonable, near Tiergarten? Thanks,
jwc
We like the Sorrat Ambassador Hotel near the tiergarten. On booking.com the rooms can be had for as little as $98 USD per night. Breakfast is wonderful but pricy unless they have a special package. Near wittendorfplatz and nollendorfplatz.
On Booking.com it shows Hotel Sachsenhof starting at <$100 USD/night for a double (breakfast about $10 extra). I've had no problems using Booking.com for hotels in Europe, just read the rules carefully. I know most people say to use the hotel's own website to book but sometimes that can be more expensive. What dates are you looking for? Edit: took out the reference to Oktoberfest, my mind must have been in Munich instead of Berlin.
Why would hotel rates in Berlin be more expensive during Oktoberfest? A fest in Munich will not affect prices anywhere else in Germany except for towns that are close to Munich. This is not a German wide festival. If you use www.hrs.com you should be able to find hotels/guesthouses at a lower price. Heading to Berlin myself next week and have chosen Motel One near the Hauptbahnhof. I stayed at their location in Bellevue the last time, which is the stop between the Hauptbahnhof and the Tiergarten. Nice, residential neighborhood, near the river and about a 5-10 min. walk from the train. Cost for a double in Bellevue is 59 euro per night, with breakfast and wifi combination, 7.50 per day.
If you want a cheap place in Berlin, budget no-frills hotels are a better option than guesthouses.
Are you sure you looked up the right hotel Jack? I paid less than $100 euro per night for a double. Like I said, I don't remember exactly how much, but I always stay for less than $100 euro per.
