We are in the city for 2 nights (May 1st & 2nd); any suggestions for a nice hotel; well situated and not a large chain?

We will also be in Barcelona in mid May for two nights. We booked at Hotel Granvia and they were very accomodating regarding our request for a quiet room on the back. The location seems to be very good. We learned that hotels in Barc are very pricey.
