Hotel in Aix near University

What's the name of the university? Aix has several.

Sorry about that, my son is doing a study abroad program there and I believe he takes classes at both the Université de Provence and Institut d’Etudes Politiques. He lives in a residence hall but I'm not sure of the exact address because we send him things in care of the program office. We are visiting and looking for a good hotel. He mentioned the Grand Hotel Mercure Aix en Provence Roi Rene as being close but I've read mixed reviews. Other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Aix is actually quite geographically small, so any hotel within the city limits would be "close." I'm not familiar with the area around Université de Provence, but I know there are no hotels in super-close proximity to the Institut - that's in the Old City.

I studied abroad with a host family in Aix, so I can't give you a personal recommendation regarding hotels. Hotel Mercure Paul Cezanne is in a central location. The closest hotel to the Institut is a 1* that's inspired horror stories.
