Hotel Help - Nice, Avignon, Bayeux

I am looking for hotel suggestions for the cities listed above. My husband and I generally prefer to stay in moderately priced mid-scale hotels that offer local charm. Of course if there is a "budget" hotel that is fantastic, we'd take that! Thanks in advance.

The Accor chain is a French-owned international company with several marques, including the budget Ibis and Etap chains. I haven't stayed in them in the cities you mention, but I find them to be nicely-priced, clean and comfortable. However, they are modern "hotels," not a hotel where you'll find local colour. Heavily used by businesspeople, so few wild parties to disturb you!;) Try www.accorhotels.com

This was a perfectly lovely B & B in Bayeaux with the most fabulous breakfast I have ever had, including a yummy chocolate tart. We had the double room which had a king size bed, giant bathroom, and beautiful antique furniture thru the whole place. Located in almost the middle of Bayeaux, it was only a 10 minute walk to the center and our BattleBus tour pick-up. I highly recommend them. You can't beat 73 euro for a double that includes breakfast.

I was happy with the Hotel Lafayette in Nice. THe staff was very helpful and friendly, the rooms were clean, breakfast was very good, and it was within walking distance from the train station, the old town and the water.

We're in Paris now having just left Bayeux yesterday. We stayed at the Hotel D'Argouges in Bayeux, the best, most wonderful hotel ever. We've been there 4 times now and can't say enough good things about it. The owner, Mme Ropartz is classy, warm, friendly and very helpful. The hotel is beautiful, with a lovely garden. I highly recommend staying there! It's in RS book for more info.

Sarah, we stayed at the Hotel le Royal right on the beach in Nice last year and loved it. The price is a little on the high side, but it was very clean and comfortable. We stayed at the Hotel Lion D'Or in Bayeux, old world hotel with a great breakfast. They are both in RS book. Hope you have a wonderful trip.

I absolutely loved the Hotel Suisse in Nice! The price was right. I think 160 euro for a lovely, clean room right over the ocean! Okay... it's across the street and then over the ocean. But the traffic did not keep us up at all. Look at the www.tripadvisor.com traveler photos and read their comments. I think you will be very pleased. It's in Rick's book, of course.
