Hotel Help in Munich

We are looking to spend a couple of nights in Munich's old city center. Lots to choose from but would love to hear from someone who can recommend a reasonable hotel, pension, or hostel which you have PERSONALLY experienced. We greatly appreciate your help.

Have "personally" experienced

  1. Hotel Am Viktualienmarkt (low cost, no frills, good bfast, friendly, clean right off the Viktualienmarkt)

  2. Hotel Platzl (high cost, fancy, superb bfast buffet w/champagne, located between Marienplatz and Viktualienmarkt and Hofbrauhaus)

  3. Mariot CourtYard at train station (American Chain, around seedy train station, only stayed there to cash in Marriot points for free night)

Sounds like you should go for #1.
