Any recommendations for a hotel near the Eiffel Tower for a family of four (2 adults and 2 kids)? It will be better if it is close to a metro station. Also, any kid friendly places for us to visit in Paris? Eiffel tower is on the list, what else?
SS You will have a great time with your family in Paris! What are your kids ages and when are you going? What is your hotel budget? Kids interests? Have you, the parents, been to Paris before? The answers to these questions will help the posters on this site give you better inforamtion. Bobbie
SS, You might get some good ideas by having a look at the France or Paris Guidebooks. I'd suggest staying in the Rue Cler area, as there are some good Hotels there, and it is within walking distance to the Eiffel Tower. The Ecole Militaire Metro stop provides easy access to anywhere in Paris. The only "kid friendly" place that comes to mind near Paris is Euro Disney. I usually travel solo, so haven't really been paying much attention to the aspect of "kid friendly". Also, as Bobbie mentioned, how old are the kids? It would help if you could indicate the price range and "level of comfort" you're looking for in Hotels?
Have you considered an apartment instead of a hotel? Often a more comfortable choice for families. VacationInParis.com has apartments all over Paris, available for a 3- day minimum stay. We (a family of 4) had one between Rue Cler and the Eiffel Tower that was perfect for us ( Eiffel Hideaway), and there are others in that area. Our daughters preferred the experience of shopping for food at the markets and cooking "in" to trying to figure out what to order in the restaurants, even tho both parents speak good French.
There are lots of kid friendly places in Paris - not knowing the age of your kids, here are some ideas: The Luxembourg Gardens, particularly the playground, donkey rides, carousel, marionette shows. Mike's Bike Tours Seine Boat Cruise Walking to the top of Notre Dame / the Arc de Triomphe The Sewer Tour / Catacomb Tour Watching street entertainers outside Notre Dame at night or on the pedestrian bridge behind Notre Dame leading to Ile St. Louis (day or night) The Jardin D'Acclimatation - an old fashioned amusement park for kids located in the Bois de Boulogne (it's wonderful)
A friend of mine taking his wife and two children to Paris this summer, among other cities, is staying at HOTEL DE TURENNE near the Eiffel Tower.
kids ages are 9 and 5. we are going to paris for the second time. eiffel tower is the highlight for them... but what else? any pointers is helpful.
Got to agree with Lola. Get an apt. It will feel more like "home". You can "hang out". Fix brfst in the morning. Go back and take a nap, etc When we rent in the EU we usually use VRBO.com and Homelidays.com. It is also a great idea to check out the local rental sites also. When we were in Paris, the year before last, we found a perfect apt at the top of the 15th, near the Rue Clair area. I agree, close to the Metro is clsoe to everything. PS Hand the 9 year old the Paris guidebook and ask her if she sees anything that interests her. And have her Google "Paris for kids" or/, and see what she comes up with. Involve them in the planning and you may be surprised with some of their ideas.
Depends on how long you are in Paris. If lucky enough to be there a week, I would definitely rent the apartment. We got a great one in the 5th off VRBO. It was fun to cook what we found at the street markets together. But, I also really enjoyed a sweet little inexpensive hotel in the 14th with my kids called La Maison Montparnasse on a different trip. Very close to the Pernety metro stop - only a few stops to the Eiffel tower. Surprisingly reasonable booked through Expedia or booking.com. My kids loved our bike tour with Bike About Tours. They also enjoyed our day trip to Giverny, then seeing the paintings in the D'Orsay a few days later. The ferris wheel near the Louvre was also a hit (along with a crepe afterwards). Another surprise was the Science Museum - Cite des Science. It's on the outskirts, but reachable by metro. My kids loved it so much that they opted out of a picnic in the Luxemborg Gardens and stayed all day. My kids are fellow foodies, so they loved wandering the markets on Rue Moufftard and shopping for dinner or picnics there. You are going to have so much fun!

Thank you all so much!! These are some great ideas and lodging suggestions. I am going to check out the apartment idea... a nap in the afternoon... that certainly sounds like us! Thanks again! :)
I think you'll be glad you chose an apartment. I specifically suggested Vacation In Paris as they are vey easy to work with, take credit cards, and the minimum stay is only 3 nights, not a week. Prices are better if you stay 5 nights but still cost effective for less.
SS - On our families last visit to Paris we used vacationinparis.com and stayed in ID #56. It worked out perfectly for us.
