We will be spending a week in Paris in July and we are looking for a hotel that can accomodate 4 adults and 5 kids (4-12). Needless to say, we are on a budget. We will be depending on public transportation. We are also looking for family-friendly activities.
Accommodations for a group of 9 in Paris in July! People on this board with groups somewhat smaller than your 9 have saved by renting an apartment in Paris, you're staying a week and apartments usually require a minimum stay of 4 or 5 nights. Apartments aren't cheap either, but if you can get 1 or even 2 apartments instead of 3 or more quad or triple hotel rooms, maybe you can save big euros. The question you'll have to research will be: can you find one large apartment that will accommodate 9 or will you have to rent 2 apartments? Even 2 apartments might beat paying for 3 or 4 hotel rooms, if you can even find those hotel rooms. If you search on "Paris apartment" in search box upper right, you'll see prior discussions on the board and some of those replies give websites of Paris apartment finders/agents. Or maybe some of you out there can give Joanie your favorite Paris apartment websites?
Joanie,
Kent is right...try this site for Parisian Appartments...
Otherwise known as Vacation Rentals By Owner...lots to choose from, in all price ranges. Before you book the appartment, I suggest that you become familiar with a map of Paris and its Arrondissements, as well as the Metro stops that serve the area.
Or this site:
Check this out

Obviously, if you can't find an appartment that can accomodate all of you, try a combination of apartments and hotel rooms...you will save money and add convenience if you go this route.
A while ago, I asked for websites of apartments to rent in Paris, and here's a list (some I have marked when you rent directly from the owner):
www.VRBO.com seems to be the best- from owner
phileas-fogg.com my personal favorite
www.vacationparis.com wwww.homelidays.com owner
www.parisbestlodge.com owner www.rentalfrance.com owner
www.apartment-in-france.com www.parisperfect.com www.yourparishome.com www.parisattitude.com
www.apartment-living.com www.feelslikehomeinparis.com
www.holidays-france-rentals.com
www.apartment-in-france.com
www.apartofparis.com www.my-apartment-in-paris.com
www.alacarteparis.com www.parisaddress.com
Give these all a try- gives you idea what is out there- LOTS!
Betsy
Opps! I'm not real smart on websites! I put www. before all of those suggested sites for apartments in Paris, and then went to look again at my favorite: phileas-fogg and found out that his actually starts out http://phileas-fogg.com
I have no idea why it isn't www. but it isn't! Sorry if I have made this confusing.....
Joanie, look into apartment, but frankly, as a group of nine you have left it way too late.. I mean many hotels in Paris are small, 20-25 rooms, so finding a hotel with at least 3 triples is going to be really hard. You may have to look into a chain hotel.. not my favorite , but for 9 people, in high season, at this date, that may be what you get.
Frankly I would try for a big apartment as I would not like to have little ones alone in rooms, keeping in mind the rooms you get may all be on different floors,, triples and quads are not common room sizes in Paris.
I doubt you'll be able to find an apartment for 9, as I had a tough time finding an apartment for 6 (at least one with 2 baths that is; 2 full bathrooms are tough to find). We are renting 2 apartments within about 2 blocks of each other. One from VacationInParis and the other from VRBO. I selected a specific area and as I found available apts. I put them on a map. My suggestion is to call VIP and talk to them about your needs (they're based in N. Jersey) and let them do the legwork for you. Our VRBO owner also goes by the name Rentals in France and he owns about a dozen rentals in the same area (some VRBO owners own only one). I also liked that he took Paypal for deposit (one I looked at wanted me to wire money to a Hong Kong account- a $40 bank fee also each time). Happy Hunting!
I saw the comments above regarding how hard it is to find apartments for 9...If you check out the last link I provided above, you will see two apartments side by side for 10! It is very late to be doing this but there are apartments to be had.
Joanie,
I have rented some apartments for our family's upcoming trip to Europe through Rentvillas.com. They are based in California, so are easy to work with (english speaking), and have listings in Paris as well as many other parts of Europe. Most of these websites will let you search by number of bedrooms needed and number of people they accommodate, and also let you see the calendar to check availability. Many of them will allow you to pay a little extra to have extra beds brought in (for the kids). Bon Voyage!
Wow!!!
What a great group of "friend" out there.
I am so thrilled about the feedback, and just to let you know, have had great luck with inquiries.
Our friends are from Germany so coordinating all of this is a little difficult.
The vacationinparis site has been the best so far. I will continue to search the others.
Most of you were right, it looks like we may not be together, but we are trying to get as close as we can. Afterall, there is soooo much to do together in Paris............right!!!
Thank you again, you have all been a great inspiration to us.
P.S. we are still looking for other ideas (family friendly activities).
Joanie, Try hotwire! You'll probably need 2 or 3 rooms
I got the Sheraton in London for $110 a night (dollars! not pounds or euros) and it included tax.
I was playing with Hotwire.com. I did not realize that hotwire also has hotels for Paris.
I also found this cheat sheet
The cheat sheet gives you an idea what hotels hotwire has a partnership with, based on the icons, the star levels, and locations.
We booked rooms for 7 people in Paris in July at an Ibis Hotel (www.accorhotels.com). I had searched several apartment websites and many hotel sites to find something inexpensive. Our Ibis is located near Pere LaChaise cemetery. Not exactly close, but at 59 Euro/night for double rooms we thought it was a fairly good deal.
Good luck!
