Hotel du Champ de Mars or Grand Hotel Leveque?

Hi,
We'll be leaving for France on May 6th. WE'll be spending the weekend at the Loire Valley and then arrive to Paris on May I think the 11th. We have two choices of staying at The Grand Hotel Leveque or the Hotel du Champ de Mars. However after reading the reviews of both hotels, I don't know which hotel to choose. If anybody has had expirience with the twom I would really appreciate your opinion.
Thanks!

I have stayed at the Hotel du Champ de Mars several times and love it. I know other folks think the owners are grumpy, but they were very kind to me when I was sick and needed medical attention. The double rooms are quaint--just what I think of when I think "Paris"--decorated in yellows and blues. You can open the window and lean out to see the open stalls on Rue Cler or listen to the diners at the bistro on the corner. However, there is NO air conditioning and that can be a drawback if you end up on the 6th floor in a heatwave. Paris can be very hot at times, yes, even in May! So, if you are like me and require cooler temps to sleep, you might look for a hotel with air conditioning. Even Rick is now promoting air conditioning since he is maturing and wants a bit of creature comfort on his trips. Also these 2 hotels typically are booked long in advance--you might not be able to get a room for May.

Stayed at Hotel Levesque. It is OK - nothing great (dingy) but we liked the location a lot.

Right now on the Fodor's Europe forum there are two
threads about these hotels (among many others). Lots
of good information.

Karin Ann,

I've stayed at Grand Hotel Leveque and would certainly recommend it. The rooms aren't luxurious, but very comfortable, and the staff are great. It's also in a nice location, with ATM's right across from the entrance, nice Cafes on the street and walking distance from the Eiffel Tower.

I haven't stayed at the Hotel du Champ de Mars but I went inside for a look when I was there last June and had a chat with the Desk Clerk. He seemed very pleasant and the Lobby was nice. I wanted to "scope it out" for a future visit.

I'd suggest you check reviews on Trip Advisor for "real world" experiences on both Hotels.

Cheers!

Actually we have two requests from both hotels that have a room available. Now I'm just trying to choose.

We stayed at The Grand Hotel Leveque last April and found it satisfactory. The front desk was very kind and helpful. Our room was a bit small, as was the bathroom. Could literally brush your teeth over the sink while sitting on the potty and could not fit two people in there at the same time. And the elevator was tiny, so we never used it. Like others, peeked into Hotel du Camp de Mars and it was very cute. I think Hotel du Champ de Mars would have a more B&B feel and the Grand Hotel Leveque felt like a regular hotel.

We have stayed at the Champ du Mars for over 20 years. We love it. The bigger rooms are at the back and are 2 twins pushed together. They have large windows and get a lot of air. It is very reasonable, and, despite what you may have heard, the Gourdals are lovely people. There is no AC, but the main hotels in the area.. The Muguet and the Relais Bosquet are much more expensive. They are very nice ,however. We stayed once at the Leveque and did not like it at all.
