A traveler recommended this hotel as an inexpensive place to stay. I checked for a room for 1 night for early May and the price was $277 for a double room. How were you able to get a room for 50 to 60 euros?

There must be a trade fair in town at the time you will be there. Hotels in Frankfurt tend to raise their rates at that time. I checked the website for Hotel Cristall for the time frame that we were there in June 2009, and it's still showing euro 65 per night at that time in 2010. You might ask Jo, who lives in Frankfurt and posts regularly on this board, if she can suggest hotels that might be more reasonable at trade fair times. Or, stay in Mainz, which is still an easy hop to the Frankfurt airport (if that's your goal).

The trade fairs do play havoc here with the room prices. Even places like the Ibis go from 69 a night to 199 a night. Motel One is a hotel that I think does not do this, or not as much. The one on Hanauer Landstrasse might be a possibilty. If not, Mainz or Wiesbaden will be your best option.
