Hotel/B&B Reservations in France

Will be renting a car and driving in Loire Valley,Normandy and Brittany the last 2 weeks of September 2012. We'd like to "wing it" and not have a rigid, set itinerary. Will we have any trouble finding overnight accommodations at the last minute?

In general, you should be able to find accomodations OK, but don't leave it too late in the day ( I usually start looking about 3 or 4 pm). I would advise buying a book showing the Chambres d' Hotes (French B and B organization) locations and details.

We have used the Logis brand hotels. They are in all the areas you listed. They are smaller hotels with private ownership but with the Logis brand as a sort of umbrella for a central booking. You can go to the Logis website to find hotels in the smaller towns and then either use the Logis website for reservations or contact the hotels by telephone. Most of the Logis hotels have very nice restuarants. We enjoy eating there because it keeps the hotel restuarant in use and if we want wine with our meal, we do not have to drive to return to the hotel. We can merely walk to our room. If you can pick up a Logis book in one of your areas, you can see the listings. If you have some specific towns in mind, you can contact me via a personal message and I can check my 2011 copy for you. We have been in all three areas and loved them! I envy you!
